When Writing Blog Content Do You Need Attention Grabbing Titles Or Keyword Rich Ones?

I was stuck on what to write about today so I asked the Blog Success team via Skype and got back some interesting suggestions - one that made me think about lollipops that I can't write about but a ton of others that helped.

An idea that caught my attention came from Jack and had a really great attention grabbing title

I will write about that soon because using content in this way is a really powerful blog marketing tool. I actually went to start writing and then I thought about the fact that while attention grabbing the title does not contain a single keyword - and if it doesn't how do I write so I reach out to someone?

When it comes to SEO for your blog experts agree that a keyword rich title followed by the same keyword inside the post (first, middle and last paragraph) is a great way to generate traffic and attention - but does that always mean we have to write like that.

The title I came up with (because writing keyword rich titles is my 'thing') is

Blog marketing tip : How to get blog traffic using free content

The monthly keywords are :

Blog Marketing 74,000

How to get blog traffic 5,400

Blog traffic 2,900

There is more chance of me getting traffic from the search engines with my title but far more chance of getting traffic from social media/web 2.0 related sites with Jack's title. So which should you use when writing blog content?

The key here is to learn how to write your blog content using both. One isn't better than the other and if you write catchy titles well you could earn yourself as much, if not more, attention from people around the web than sticking to a keyword rich one.

As much as possible you want to focus on long tail keyword phrases (e.g. how to get blog traffic) as well as the big ones (e.g. blog marketing) to help you get found.

Now the real question is can I combine the two to make a catchy headline that is keyword rich

I am not sure I am happy with the start of the title.... "In blog marketing...." What do you think? How can I get blog marketing into the title? Can you come up with something different?

I am going to write that blog post next week because it will require a little attention from me so in the meantime if you want to have a go at writing a catchy keyword rich title I'd love to read them.
