When Is The Right Time To Begin A Child's Orthodontics Treatment

Due to the fact orthodontic problems can often be detected in young children treatment can often correct the problems. Orthodontic treatment can help with crowded and protruding teeth, among other problems.

Limited Treatment

Limited orthodontic treatment is where not all of the orthodontic problems are addressed at one time. While some of the problems can be detected early, they may not need to be treated early. Two phases of orthodontic treatment usually cost more and are less efficient. However, some problems such as crossbites, severe crowding and loss of space for permanent teeth may need to be treated immediately. Often these problems will cost more time and money to treat later.

Comprehensive Treatment

Comprehensive orthodontic treatment is where all orthodontic problems are addressed at once. This is best when children are about 12 years old and the last baby molars are falling out, with second molars coming in. Jaw positions can be treated earlier, but they are most effectively treated when wisdom teeth haven’t come in yet.

Treatments requiring jaw surgery and dental implants are best done when growth is complete, as an adult.
