When The Lake Is Low
In order to really understand what I am talking about, it is helpful to see what the lake looks like when it is full and when it is low. There is quite a difference. What you can’t see in the photos is the many boat ramps that no longer go all the way to the water. During times like this, what a great opportunity to do maintenance or even to extend the ramps. See all the exposed shore line? What a great opportunity to pick up garbage without putting on scuba gear. Property owners who have stairs and tails to the lake have an opportunity to do maintenance on these or to extend them. So what’s in it for boaters? They can explore Lake Travis to see where the underwater hazards will be when the lake is full. They can also find what will be great underwater cover and where the really deep water is for fishing when Lake Travis is back up. How about people looking for waterfront property on Lake Travis? They can check properties for the slope to the water. They can look at properties to see if the can put in a boat dock that will actually float during times like these. Many properties, especially on coves or with long, gradual slopes to the water have grass growing up around the docks right now. They can study properties to see about future landscaping, ramps, stairs and rails. Sure, it is a headache to have the water in Lake Travis so low - and it isn’t quite as pretty either. However, the low water conditions, which don’t really happen that often, can provide smart people with good opportunities.
