Have you ever found yourself in another city desperately trying to find out your whereabouts because you were lost? And what if that city were in a different country and your language was not good enough to ask a passer-by for directions? Hopefully there's now OdysseyMobile, navigation software for Windows CE-based PDA that will be your electronic guide whenever you go, extending its helping hand when you are lost and have no paper map.
Supporting NAVTEQ maps, OdysseyMobile has maps for the USA, Canada, and Puerto Rico. You can select individual states or combinations of states and state parts. You can load as many maps as you want and if they are contiguous you will be able to plan cross map routes.
Setting OdysseyMobile is incredibly easy. Just like it's with Google Maps, you should enter the address data and then a map appears on the screen, either in 2D or 3D according to your choice. Now you can get the directions on how to come to a destination place and plan a trip in a few seconds. The software has powerful Artificial Intelligence engine able to adjust to the route you want to go automatically! What's more, the software has voice navigation telling you the distance to go to the destination and expected time of arrival. Isn't it cool, or what?
OdysseyMobile's voice is pleasant American female. In her unaccented American English, she will guide you throughout the route, give you a warning about the upcoming turn at a distance that seems to vary with your speed and tell you to turn as you get to the maneuver. The prompts are timely and appropriate. The instructions are provided in a human like fashion - the voice says "turn", "bear", "veer" as appropriate. In addition to the voice, there's another prompt - a little arrow in the right area of the screen, so you may choose 2 ways to get directions.
OdysseyMobile is a must-have for any person who feels a strong call of the road. It'll ensure you are on the right way to your destination and do it even when you are in a strange area with little lighting at night or in the rain.
A 3-day demo version can be downloaded for a test drive.
