Where To Catch A Movie In Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara CA is like a mini-Hollywood, with many celebrities making their home near the beautiful ocean views, so it’s no surprise that there are a wide variety of movie theaters in the area. Here are the places to catch your favorite flicks.

1. The Arlington Theater. Okay, so maybe this won’t be the place you go when you’re catching Rocky XVII, but the Arlington is a classic landmark of Santa Barbara and represents everything that’s right with the culture there. The Arlington does film showings of old classics and new independent films, and annually hosts the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The Arlington also hosts plays, concerts, and HD Simulcasts. This is the most high society option of all the movie theaters in the city of Santa Barbara. It rivals the Santa Barbara Bowl for being the most acclaimed venue in the city.

2. Metro 4 Theater. Despite its gruff exterior, the Metro 4 is truly a charming little movie theater. The matinee prices in this theater go all the way to 6 p.m., so it outdoes its larger competitors in that respect. In fact, even the regular prices are reasonable compared to many larger cinemas. Additionally, as a smaller, lesser known theater, you won’t deal with as large of crowds at the first showing of a new movie as you might somewhere else.

3. Riviera Theater. Locals say that this is the place to go if you’re looking for something ‘artsy’ or a new independent film. It’s a smaller, cozier alternative to the Arlington, and it will never be as crowded as some giant megaplex down the street might be. It has a nostalgic feel and it can make a great date location. Another plus is that the audience tends to be filled with octogenarians so you probably won’t be dealing with screaming children.

4. Paseo Nuevo Cinemas. This is the cinema that more suits the stereotypical image you might think of when you think of a movie theater, but with more class. The food is decent, the staff is nice, and it shows a pretty good variety of movies. This should be your fall-back cinema if the other places don’t have the flick you want to see on their screens.

It may seem like any theater will do when you’re just going to be sitting in the dark watching a movie, but trust me: location counts. Check out the Santa Barbara cinemas above and your movie-watching experience will be truly enjoyable.
