Whey Protein Isolate - What Can It Do For Bodybuilders

A good protein supplement is a must for every bodybuilders who are serious about their workout. Whey protein has gained popularity as a supplement for many years for many reasons. How one type of whey is different from the others? What is different and how will each of them benefit you?

First, it is important to emphasize that whey protein is supplement. Many people still think it is a replacement for meals, which is wrong. Keep whole foods as your primary source of nutrients and add whey proteins to supply enough protein per pound of lean body mass.

Not all whey protein are created the same though. While all whey protein comes from milk, at the purest form, it still contains lactose as well as fat and cholesterol. Different methods to extract the protein while maintaining the quality and removing excessive undesired ingredients result in different quality of whey protein.

Two of the common types of whey is whey protein concentrates (WPC), which consists of 29 to 89 percent of protein. Whey protein isolate (WPI) has higher content of protein, usually greater than 85 or 90 percent. Isolate tends to be easier to absorb. Besides the content, isolate also has less fat and lactose, making it more desirable.

That is still scratching the surface though. As time goes, manufacturers introduce other nutritious elements into their products. That's why, that and other factors like marketing, diversify the prices of the products available on the market. Whey protein also comes in a dozen or more favors, making it harder, or perhaps easier, to choose.

Whey protein isolate costs more than concentrate because of the filtering process during production. Many commercial products want to carry the isolate label though, because of its popularity as the better protein. So they include enough isolate in their blend to legally put the ingredient on the product label.

Check the label carefully to identify fillers. They exist solely to bulk up content. For the benefits, whey protein concentrate obviously is a less preferred solution. But it isn't necessary to pay full price for isolate either. A good blend will help you save money. As more choices flock into the market, you have to spend more time if you want to research them all for the right protein that suits your budget and needs.

Newer products are able to introduce many elements that will save more money. If as part of your supplement you also consume various vitamins to help the body absorb nutrients, some products already offer that included in one package. The benefit is, you don't have to pay separately.
