Which Cheap Road Bike Should I Buy
Their frames are lighter than they used to be but they still are not light. They often have indexed derailleurs which click into each gear. They have reliable brakes and are made to look great. If you considering the number of moving parts and the enjoyment they bring they truly are a very good value. And if they are kept in good shape they will last for years. In my opinion I though, it is worth spending a few extra dollars to get one that not only look great but will make your rides more comfortable and efficient. You need to go to the $500 range or better to be able to buy a decent entry-level bike. You perhaps could find one a little closer to the $300 mark on a clearance sale or buy used. Above $700 you'll be paying for quality you don’t need unless you’re planning on doing a lot of riding or going in races. But I’m not telling you that you should buy the cheapest bike you can, I’m just want you to be aware that better or best isn't really necessary. Decent will get the job done. On cheap road bikes you should expect components (often Shimano Sora maybe Tektro) along with low-end cranks. These bikes also utilize relatively heavy aluminum or steel frames along with a fairly heavy wheel set. As you can see it's not going to be something to write home about but it will give you something to ride. The thing you need to make sure of is that it fits you before you buy it. The bicycle frame is the foundation of a bike and at these low prices is usually made out of "chromoly" steel or aluminum. Whichever is used it needs to be strong and durable and as lightweight as possible. It also needs to be in the right balance so that it suits your riding style, your current ability and your future goals. One thing though don't be misled to believe that all frames made of a certain material are the same when it come to weight, ride quality or fit. There does tend to be pretty good value though in most of them. Second in importance after the frame are the wheels of the bicycle. They are also second as far as cost and sometimes can be even more expensive than the frame. In my opinion you need to (according to your budget) give the frame first importance then wheels and then the components that your money can buy. This is because I feel most component sets are pretty decent but this is not true of all wheel sets. Choosing which cheap road bike to buy can be hard work especially when there are so many out there for sale. But I trust with the above information you can make a wise informed decision on your purchase and enjoy it for years to come.
