Who Registered The Domain Name?

The internet promises a lot of money-making opportunities. There are a lot of markets being created by the virtual community. As more and more websites are made, more and more people also become curious how to own or register a specific domain name.

The long process of owning a website starts with choosing a domain name that net surfers can type in their browsers in order to access the site. So if you want to maintain a site after your name, then find a company who can maintain it for you. If this is the case, then the process of registration actually starts with the “webmaster” or the one who maintains the website.

A regulating entity makes sure that all registered domain names are in order. Even if you have the freedom to choose a domain name, someone makes sure that all of these are regulated and are kept in order. The International Corporation of Assigned Numbers and Names (ICANN) is the entity that oversees these things.

If you are to start your own website, you need to get a domain name registrar. This entity owns responsibility of maintaining the name for you and makes sure that the name you have chosen is not taken by anybody else. After which, they offer you web hosting as well. Most registrars are hosts as well.

So, how it works? You choose the domain name, while your web registrar checks its availability and seeks regulation from ICANN. ICANN will then regulate all the names.
