Why Booklets Are Better Than Catalogs

If you are debating whether to print booklets or catalogs with your marketing dollars, you may want to take a second look at booklets. There are many reasons why booklets can be the superior choice for your company.


Booklets inform, while catalogs sell

In order to make a good decision as to whether to print booklets or print catalogs, you have to know the fundamental difference between the two products.

Booklets are designed to inform the reader. Generally, they are more in depth than even a brochure would be. They can be used to give a history of the company, highlight all of the features of a new product, or specify rules and regulations of your company.

Catalogs, on the other hand, have the main purpose of trying to sell to the reader. Catalogs generally feature several products, with a short description and pricing information. The goal of a catalog is to encourage someone to buy the product or service, and it will detail precisely how they should do it (such as fill out a mail-order form, visit a website, or visit your store). While catalogs will contain some descriptions, in general they are very brief and not as thorough as the descriptions that would be included in a booklet.

Booklets allow you to spark interest in a product or service

Generally speaking, catalogs are useful for customers who already know about your products and services. They are ideal for customers who need to be reminded about your goods or who may be interested in seeing additional related products. They can be also be useful if you are having a special sale or promotion that you would like to share with your customers.

Catalogs generally only have room for a paragraph at most about the product or service offered. In contrast, booklets can be much more in depth about a product – including the history, key design elements, pricing, and more information. You can also include more graphics and images than you could in a catalog, which usually only offers one or two views of a product.

With a booklet, this means that you can give customers all the information that they need. If you have a new product or service, or are trying to reach an entirely new customer base, then booklets are definitely an excellent choice.

More flexibility

Since catalogs are designed to sell, you will find that the style and layout from one catalog to another will remain very similar – product images and descriptions, prices, and information on how to order. Because a set amount of information has to be included, you will find that many catalogs will be the same size and shape.

Because booklets can be used for a wide variety of purposes, you will find that the design elements can change accordingly. This gives you more flexibility in layout, size, images, and more that you can include. You can be as creative with your presentation as you need to be, allowing your company to reach an even broader audience than you could otherwise.
