As a speaker, you need credibility. The best way to gain credibility is by creating a book or books. Speakers who have created books found they were booked for more jobs than speakers who didn't. This is because they were perceived as experts. Everyone can write a book. No matter who you are, there is a book inside of you.
All you need to do to create a book is just get started. It isn't hard to do. If you go to the book store, you will find all kinds of books on the shelves. You will be surprised when you read the various titles, what kinds of books are available. There are unusual titles that you never thought would be on the market. Just take a few minutes to go down each aisle of the book store and check out the newest titles. See if you can spot a niche that hasn't been touched too much then write about it from your angle.
You have the ability to create a book. All you have to do is write down everything you know about and are either an expert in or just know. Keep doing this until you find an idea. You'll be surprised by what you can come up with. The important point is to create a book so you will have clout. The more clout you have the better chance you will have to get more speaking jobs. Not only that but by creating a book, you will be listed as an expert and can give your books away to those in attendance. This is the key factor to promote yourself and your speaking business. You are a marketer so you have to take steps to market your book. You do this by getting your materials out there so it is visible.
When you create a book, you can find that publishing the book is really not that much. Some speakers self-publish. They just have to spend money having the work printed. Then they go out and sell the book on their own. In some cases, printing costs could be low, depending on the size of the book and the content of the book. If the book is huge, this will cost more. You do not have to create a huge book. Just create a book that is small. As long as you create something that is appealing, and that you can use to promote you’re speaking, that is what counts.
