Loretta Hunt of The Fight Network recent spoke with Greg Jackson about Diego Sanchez's depature from Team Jackson. Although what he had to say about it sounds a lot different than what Sanchez had said about it to Sam Caplan of fiveouncesofpain.
In that interview, Greg Jackson explained, "No. Georges and Diego have hung out and they both like each other. Diego wanted to reconnect with his son in California,” and followed that with. "We love Diego and our door is always open to him but as far as Georges being one of the reasons for him leaving, that never came up."
Sam Caplan had spoken with Diego about a week before and he mentioned on fiveouncesofpain, "He said there are various reasons for his departure but he cited Jackson’s involvement with Georges St. Pierre as a primary reason. Diego felt Jackson was giving a lot of individual attention to GSP and sometimes at Diego’s expense."
Tim's Take: Obviously in a situation like this, one person is always going to be bitter while the other person is going to want to try and save some face. It sounds like The Ultimate Fighter Season 3 all over again, except Diego Sanchez is playing the role of Michael Bisping and GSP has taken the role of Matt Hamill. I understand in a world like this, you need that attention in order to learn and grow as a fighter. What Diego has to understand is that GSP had a fight coming up against the SAME guy that just beat you, why not help GSP? Yes he's still in your weight class, and he's probably in your way to get back in the title hunt but we all know that GSP would destroy Sanchez if they were to ever fight. I don't think that anyone here is in the wrong, it just sounds like a whole lot of egos are in the way.
