Why Dogs Are Her Prime Choice As Portait Subjects

Each time this female Pasadena portraitist comes to paint her unpredictable subjects, she experiences some troubles. Well bred subjects as they might be, they will never pose politely and patiently as any human beings would. Such adorable yet feisty subjects only allow the artist a few minutes to assess its exquisite features, sitting for a very brief period then goes on a rampage after a scratch at an imaginary flea or a bark that may be short but very loud.

The best manner of capturing dogs into her portraits is with the help of an instant camera and she does so at the second floor of her nice 67 year old home which she and her husband stay in. There are better poses on some dogs and she should know for she has created countless portraits of both cats and dogs. Highly trained show breeds who look condescendingly vain when it comes to how they looked are very superior posers.

Purebreds are what most of her canine clients comprise of. These purebreds can be painted much easier than those of mixed breeds as they boast of a more distinct shades of coats and skeletal structure. Her very favorite subjects are purebred hounds, since the hound's hair is so short that the fine structure of his body very clearly shows through. The wonderful expression makes her enjoy such subjects more.

This artist is also an expert in watercolor landscapes as well as a technical illustrator during the week for their town's observatory. A famous gallery is home to some of her best works. She learned to become a magazine illustrator after studying at an art school in New York. In fact, one of her teachers suggested that she try her paints on dogs.

This animal lover is a frequent spectator at dog shows around New York where she would carefully study and of course sketch the best dog breeds. Charcoal and oil are second options for this lady who likes to depict her canine clients in pastels. She gets work more than what she can bear with during the Christmas season.

Flattering her animal subjects a bit is also something she admits to the way most painters of human beings would. Along with her husband, a retired electrical engineer, she has been raising dogs known as salukis, purebred hounds with bloodlines reach back to ancient Persia and Egypt.
