Why Fat Loss Is Important

Fat is the way that your body stores all of the extra calories that you consume, filling the fat cells (known medically as adipose tissue) that help to insulate the body. The body stores the fat as a precaution against times of starvation and can be an important energy source for you. For example, when you exercise, your body starts to rely on the calories from fat after the first 20 minutes.

Being a little overweight may not affect you too much but too much fat can be detrimental to your health. If you continually take in calories you do not burn off, your amount of fat increases to a level where it can be damaging. Being overweight doesn’t depend on your body weight but on the amount of body fat that you have and high levels of this fat can put you at a higher risk of a number of serious diseases. These include:

• Heart disease

• Diabetes

• Cancer

• Sleep Apnoea

• Gout

• Osteoarthritis

There are reasons why you might retain fat. You may have a larger appetite or the types of food you’re eating are more highly calorific. In addition, you may not take enough exercise for the amount of calories you’re consuming.

When you take in too many calories and don’t do enough exercise, the excess energy is stored in the form of body fat. Too much body fat can ultimately lead to your life expectancy being reduced. Excess weight can also dent your feelings of self worth, affect your mood and you experience more tiredness.

When you lose excess fat, it can lead to a number of great health benefits, such as:

• Lower your blood pressure

• Lower your cholesterol

• Lessen the symptoms of depression

• Increase your self esteem

Added to reducing your risk of fat-related illnesses, making a commitment to lose weight can be essential to improving your overall well being.
