Why I Will Never Forget My Wedding Day

It is every girl's dream to have a perfect wedding day. I have to say, while some people may have been able to find fault with some happenings or a piece of food they ate that day, they would have a hard time telling me everything was not perfect. My wedding day was a day that I will truly never forget.

I will save you the boring details of the early part of my day and skip right to the ceremony. As my day progressed, the reality that I was spending my last day as a single woman started to sink in. I am not sure if it was the fact that I would start the day with one name and end it with another or the fact that the rest of my life was going to be spent living every day side-by-side with the person I loved that started the emotions brewing, but I could feel them about to take over. It was everything I could do to hold it together as I walked down the aisle.

As we recited our vowels, my nervousness was taken over by a true sense of calmness. All of a sudden, everything I had been worried about felt right. It is tough to explain, but I am sure it is a feeling that everyone standing on the altar has felt. The moment the wedding band went on my finger, I just knew that everything was going to be okay. Even though we were standing in a room full of hundreds of people, as far as I was concerned, we were totally alone.

The next few hours were filled with utter chaos, but I was enjoying every second of it. We were whisked around town to have our pictures taken and then over to the hotel for about an hour of down time before the reception began. That hour could not have come at a better time as we both needed just a few seconds to catch our breath. When it was time to head downstairs for introductions, my heart once again started to beat at an uncontrollable rate.

While I enjoyed every second of my wedding day, my favorite moment was at the start of the reception. Our Maitre D' obviously knew his way around a wedding. He engaged us in small talk prior to our entrance that actually made us forget for one brief moment that we were actually at our wedding. The next thing we knew, he was sweeping open the doors as I heard the bandleader say these words for the first time, "Welcome, for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. O'Sullivan." That moment, that single moment, is why I will never forget my wedding day.
