Why It's Essential To Pack Lightly
The first reason to avoid taking all that stuff with you is that you simply don't need it. Pack only the bare minimum, like a camera, a travel destination guidebook, your ticket and wallet, and some basic clothing. Unless you're going to a very remote area, there will be places to go shopping at your destination. If you happen to forget something small, you can buy it once you arrive. Perhaps the biggest problem for most travellers is clothing, since they're not sure how often they have access to a washing machine, or they want the piece of mind of knowing that they definitely have clothes they like. Quit your worrying. Just take a couple of changes of clothing and you can buy more if you need any, after you arrive. Packing light is easier on your body and helps you conserve energy and keep your stress levels down during your trip. Imagine if you have to walk a fairly long distance for some reason. Do you really want to pull a big heavy suitcase and crash it into everything on the sidewalk? What if you taxi driver or hotel concierge doesn't carry your bag and you are obligated to do it yourself? Of course a smaller and lighter bag would be better. Those little difficult moments might not be long, but they do increase your stress level a little bit, and remember, you are on vacation! You deserve better than to be stressed out on vacation. Don't put obstacles in your own path. One last reason to pack as little as possible is that you won't experience so much of a loss if your bags are missing. If somebody steals your suitcase and it is full of all your best and most expensive outfits and jewelry, you lost it all. If the airline can't find your suitcase there is usually some kind of reimbursement, but it is limited, plus going out to buy your belonging again is a big pain in the neck. Bring the minimum and you minimize the risk of loss. Vacation time is your time to release stress and refresh yourself. Don't work yourself any harder than necessary by carrying around a heavy suitcase and worrying about its fate. Just bring the bare minimum and be ready to do a bit of shopping at your destination if you need to.
