Why Joining Wealthy Affiliate Appeared To Be A Mistake - A Mistake I Transformed Into Money

Prior to enrolling, I'd spent more than a year searching the World Wide Web for a way to turn my writing background into a source of Internet income. Of course I ran into several of high-priced cyber-scammers. I expected more disappointment from a free Internet marketing course I found. But much to my surprise, it actually worked! So I wasn't surprised when it turned out that its author had an ulterior motive - He invited me to enroll in Wealthy Affiliate through him.

The Wealthy Affiliate University Web site was so extensive, and with so many features to plow through, I felt almost as confused as when began college decades earlier. But soon I realized that I wasn't that much of a freshman - since I already knew the principles online marketing through my free course, I wasn't quite as frustrated as those who had signed up with no Internet marketing background whatsoever. Just as I was beginning to think that I'd made a mistake and join Wealthy Affiliate University too soon, it taught me about audience niches.

An online marketing niche is where keyword research meets an unnoticed but profitable customer segment. “Profiting online” is not a niche because it’s so broad, an Internet search creates literally millions of competitors. “Profiting online for beginners” is a niche because it reaches a particular portion of that audience. And “Profiting online for beginner lessons” is a perfect niche because it promises a desired product or service to a highly-demanding audience. Once I understood that concept, I also realized that I'd literally stumbled over a niche without really trying. I call them "raw newbies."

There were some WA-ers who were thinking along similar lines, and had formed their own pre-Wealthy Affiliate basic marketing courses. I became their affiliate and gathered free products from them. On a Web site, I introduced the products to raw newbies so they could receive the basic experience that I had received. Within less than three months, my site was averaging one hundred hits per day while producing an e-mail list, and, of course, money from their referrals!

So has my first year at Wealthy Affiliate been worth it - the forced diligence, self-discipline, sacrifice of my spare time, the re-defining of what successful writing is? Has it put me in a position to earn good money online?

Well, let's just say despite the fact that I'm not a wealthy Wealthy Affiliate as of now, I'm already setting goals for my next year!
