Why Joining Wealthy Affiliate Seemed Like A Mistake - A Mistake I Made Into Money

Before enrolling, I'd spent a year and a half scouring the Internet for a way to turn my writing experience into a source of marketing income. Not unexpectedly, I ran into an army of money-grubbing cyber-con artists. I was equally skeptical of a free marketing marketing course. But incredibly, it actually worked! So I didn't mind when it turned out that its author had an ulterior motive - He invited me to enroll in Wealthy Affiliate University through him.

The Wealthy Affiliate University Web site was so vast, and with so many features to wade through, I felt almost as disoriented as when started out in college much earlier. But soon I realized that I wasn't exactly a first-semester freshman - since I already knew the basics marketing marketing through my free course, I wasn't quite as confused as those who had signed up with no marketing marketing skills whatever. Just as I began to think that I'd made a mistake and join Wealthy Affiliate too soon, I took their lesson in audience niches.

An online marketing niche is where keyword research meets an unnoticed but money-producing customer segment. “Profiting online” is not a niche because it’s so generic, an Internet search produces literally millions of responses. “Profiting online for beginners” is a niche because it focuses on a particular portion of that audience. And “Profiting online for beginner lessons” is a good niche because it promises a needed product or service to a highly-demanding audience. Once I absorbed that concept, I also grasped that I'd pretty much came across a niche without really trying. I named them "raw newbies."

There were some WA-ers who were working along the same lines, and had developed their own pre-Wealthy Affiliate freshman marketing courses. I signed on as their affiliate and gathered free products from them. On a Web site, I presented the products to raw newbies so they could receive the fundamental experience that I had been given. Within eight weeks, my site was yielding one hundred hits per day while resulting in an e-mail list, and, of course, money from their referrals!

So has my first year at Wealthy Affiliate been worth it - the demands on my spare time, self-discipline and confidence, the re-defining of what successful writing is? Has it put me in a position to earn good money online?

Well, let's just say despite the fact that I'm not a wealthy Wealthy Affiliate yet, I'm ready to start my second year!
