If you make sure that you keep your learning process as simple as possible, you will learn faster and begin conversing with those who speak French on a comfortable level in a relatively short period of time.

Of course, it never hurts to have some CDs as well. If you're in a position to learn through the use of the CD, you might find that it makes an excellent addition to the books that you are using. By using the two in conjunction, you will learn the language in a shorter period of time.
