I have a favorite local Amish surplus store in my hometown that is quite famous for our locomotive replicas of various trains used throughout the years. There are several themes that you can choose depending on what style you are going to go with for your hobby. One thing that you should try to keep in mind is when choosing a theme you should do some research on what is largely available. Unfortunately some people have chosen a theme or era that was at times difficult to find the correct pieces to. So just keep this in mind so you won't be disappointed if you cannot find some of the parts that you need.
The model steam trains era pieces seem to be a little more difficult to find versus the modern day train models. The steam locomotive era is also more expensive hobby to have to invest into. Even some of the secondhand merchants are very limited on the supplies that they carry. It is normal however, when you are first starting out in your hobby to mix and match the different eras. Although when you have gained some experience and knowledge of what era you are wanting to go with you will have a better understanding of what you are looking for when you go to purchase pieces. When building your train station and surrounding village you will also have to pick what scenery you would like for your hobby. You can choose so many like the mountains with trees and lakes or a country setting like in the Wild West westerns.
The amount of possibilities is endless as you can use your imagination and build whatever you desire. Having a passion for model steam trains and being able to open your mind and create something that you and your family will love for years to come. Building a train scene should be something that is fun for you. Maybe something that you and your son or granddaughter could to with you would be a wonderful way to spend time with your loved ones and also a great way to share your passion of trains with them.
