Why We Prefer Diets For Fast Weight Loss
It's understandable that we want and need relief. But we are also spoiled by the instant gratification world in which we live. When applied to concerns over losing weight we often find ourselves looking for diets for fast weight loss. Such rapid weight loss diets are generally ill-advised since they are most often devoid of quality nutrition and sound health practices. I remember years ago going on a greens and vinegar diet. Day 1 was OK but by day 2 my stomach was crying, "OUCH!" By the 3rd day I was so sick of turnip greens, kale, and spinach that I threw in the towel. I couldn't go on. Not only was that silly diet making me sick it was also wearing me down with repetitive monotony. Yep. Tried the grapefruit diet. Even gave the lemonade fast a shot. So when it comes to diets for fast weight loss I've been there and done that. Every single one of these diets accomplishes what is advertised. You will lose weight quickly. Then again, you can expect to gain it all back and probably a few pounds extra. But why? Why is it necessary to punish ourselves just to take off some quick poundage? Generally the motivator has to do with an upcoming special occasion. Who hasn't gone on a crash diet prior to attending their high school reunion? Got to fit into that wedding dress, right? Got to look good when you show a little extra flesh on the beach. What's that? Our motivation is to look good for others? On those special occasions we want people see us in the best possible light. There is another motivation that is, in reality, far more important. But even that motivation can lead us down the wrong path. The motivation to which I refer is "better health." I say that it can lead us down the wrong path because we still end up engaging in an ill-advised diet that contributes to poor heath. Ironic isn't it? We become concerned about our health and respond with a diet. But rather than engaging in a "healthy" weight loss program we once again turn to the fad diet of the moment. Instead of contributing to our well-being we actually engage in practices that further deteriorate the state of our health. Rather than the quick fix we will do ourselves a much greater service by embracing long term, steady, and healthy weight loss with the goal of getting it off, keeping it off, and getting into the best health possible. Diets should not be approached like putting on makeup and getting dolled up just to look good. The best diets don't just affect your outside appearance but also your inner health and wellness. The better choice is to "just say no" to the Cabbage Diet, the Banana Diet, the "Soup Diet (too much salt), or any of the other quick fix diet. Make better choices for the sake of your health. Possibly you are one of those individuals that is an immaculate housekeeper. Everything is always neat and clean. But most of us are not that way and we kind of let things slide until we know that company’s coming. Then we go into action and get the place looking good for the visitors. After the visitors depart, we sit down (exhausted), and then peer around the room. That’s when the thought crosses your mind, “Why don’t I ever do this for myself?” Weight loss is that way. Instead of just doing it to impress others…do it for yourself.
