Why You Will Not Make Money From Writing Jobs
Mistakes Are Important Before I begin, time for a disclaimer. The mistakes that I highlight in this article are not reasons for you to give up. If you find yourself nodding along as you read and your head dipping, take heart from the knowledge you can put things right. Don't feel sorry for yourself, feel sorry for the people who haven't read this article and are going to go on wasting their time for no reward. And then, if you know who they are, pass this article on to them. There isn't enough kindness in the writing jobs niche, I'm a person who wants to change that and I hope you are to. Remember my post The Top Five Reasons Why You Should Work For Yourself? Re-read it if you need re-motivating on why you are giving this new career a go. Take It Seriously There are a number of blogs and websites out there that will tell you that making money from writing is the easiest thing in the world. They'll tell you that with no effort you can become richer than you can imagine. Too good to be true? Of course it is. If you could make money without effort, everyone would be rich. There is truth in the claims - if I wanted a week or two off I know that the work I have in place already will keep making me money. Even then, if I don't do anything, the money will run out. I'm telling you that making money from online writing jobs requires effort on your part, but the rewards are truly high. You will not make money from lazily written, half-thought out articles and blog posts. Did you expect any different? This career might not be for you. To get the jobs, you have to give your best. The true USP of writing jobs is that anyone can reach a standard that companies will pay for. See my article on How To Write Great Quality Blog Posts to learn how you can improve your writing. Be Ready To Work Hard What a lot of other websites are telling you is essentially true - they just miss out the months of hard work you need to put in first. The first few months of writing are much more difficult than the ones further down the line. That's one of the reasons I always recommend starting to Make Money From Writing Jobs In Your Spare Time so you can find out if you're ready for the commitment. When you first stating writing for money you have no reputation, you are an unknown. You need your work to stand out to make a name for yourself. Put everything you've got into your first jobs - go overboard and make sure you please your client. You wont have a huge portfolio of work to show off, so what you do have must be remarkable Of course, everything you write should be brilliant - that's the only way to make a living from writing jobs. But, after time, you will find it easier to get commissions based on your reputation. You still have to produce quality, but you won't have to struggle so hard for the opportunity to shine. Respect The Professions When you start making money from writing, you are joining a group of professionals who take pride in their output. Of all the people who call themselves writers, only a few at the top put in the work to make huge money. That's OK, you might not be a millionaire from writing but you will make enough for that vacation you've been dreaming of. The true judge of success in this industry is against your own targets. Writing can be done part time for extra cash or as a full time career - it's up to you. Writers who fail to respect their job will fall short of their targets. Then they'll give up. If you're not getting what you want back, ask yourself if you're really paying enough respect to the job. Online writing jobs are not a get rich quick scheme, they are a real job with great benefits. You wont get anything for free anywhere else, so why here? You Can Change The biggest mistake people make, and the biggest reason people talk bad about writing jobs, is giving up. If you're not making what you want, look at the things you might be doing wrong. Most writers can change a few habits and get a lot more success in return. They key points I've discussed in the article can help you re-energize your output: Mistakes are part of the game - you just need to learn from them Writing is a real job - take it seriously if you want serious rewards Be ready to work hard - your first months will be the hardest as you make a reputation Respect the profession - and it will respect you Are there any mistakes you've made that have stopped you reaching your potential?
