Why Can't I Access The "additional Tasks" In The Sdm?
I have SDM express installed on the flash of the router, and if i run the SDM express programme from the flash of the router i know the GUI looks a bit different, but i can access these 'additional tasks'?? I cant see it being any of the configuration i have done via the CLI that could be causing this problem as it works running the express version from the flash of the router? Having said that i am no expert otherwise i wouldnt be writing this post LOL. Forgot to mention i am running the most up to date version of firefox 3.5.2. Personally I dislike Cisco's choice on using java to run the sdm. But I guess thats the only cross-platform solution out there. As for the security risks involved, these are my thoughts 1) The SDM itself might not be prone to any security issues, unless there is some sort of specific attack that targets users of SDM and you managed to get infected by it. 2) Using an older JRE might impact the security of other programs that require a JRE. You might want to update to the latest JRE supported by SDM. 3) The issues with SDM are so vast, its impossible to point the finger at any one component of this cluster****. For example, the other day i wanted to run the SDM on an 2610XM running IOS 12.4(17) and it kept crashing the router. I had just created the RSA keys on the router and wanted to test the SDM with the HTTPS option. After 2-3 crashes and always seeing the same error messages in the crash info, I was sure that SDM was causing it. I decided to investigate and guess what I found!!! All the way to the end of the SDM v2.5 release notes there are theses caveats. And nestled in one of them is the following: Open Caveats—Cisco SDM 2.5 * CSCsk78581 When Cisco SDM is invoked using HTTPS on a router running Cisco IOS version 12.4(17), the router crashes Workaround: Invoke Cisco SDM using HTTP. And there are like 40 other open caveats in the list. So, you see, the issues with SDM depend on a variety of things. There is no way to knw them all until you experience them first-hand. Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com drive from www.ccie-test.com.ccie boot campI have a cisco 877W router/switch, with a local install of the SDM (Version 2.5) on my PC. I can start up and access nearly everything in the SDM GUI but when i click on the 'additional tasks' box which is the last option on the left at the bottom, nothing happens. It just displays the contents of the last box i clicked on previously on the left, in the pane on the right?ccie training. |
