Why Choose Html Over Plain Text?

Most people if asked would have heard of the term HTML, however few actually understand what it means. HTML, or HyperText Markup Language, is a technological language that allows plain text to be displayed alongside visual or audible content.

HTML makes emails, websites and all things online a lot more interesting, as without it, these would all be plain black and white text. That's why it's so important marketers recognise the importance of using HTML in their emails and newsletters, rather than just using plain text.

First off, HTML newsletters are much more visually appealing to recipients, grabbing their attention and potentially encouraging them to click on a link, or make a purchase, or even send in an enquiry. The main goal of all email marketers is to ensure every message sent is actually read, and not just sent straight to the junk folder.

With HTML, the chances of this happening are much slimmer, as the interested design, colours and style can help redirect readers' attention to an external website, providing an increased click-through rate and conversion rates - ultimately increasing sales and profit.

Secondly, HTML can create a much more realistic connection between the words on an email and the actual product or service they relate to. Through the use of photographs, graphics, audio and video, consumers can read the detailed information, and then see the product or service in action. This makes for a more personal connection with the reader, and a better shot that they'll actually procure the service.

HTML graphics used in emails help guard against image blocking, too, helping e-marketers feel more secure in the fact that their hand-crafted, well-thought-through email is delivered in its entirety, for maximum effect.

Lastly, the coding and tags required to make HTML happen can be hidden behind images, making for a less intrusive read for the recipient. It is important, however, to test this last fact regularly, so be sure to send test emails to yourself and others around you on a regular basis.
