Why Underwire In Nursing Bras Isn't Advised

A lot of Nursing Bras come with no underwire. Why is this. Well underwire in nursing bras has been linked as a possible cause of mastitis and blocked milk ducts. If the metal underwire presses into the breast in the wrong place it can press on the milk ducts and cog the ducts which then can become infected.

Most nursing bras these days come with soft cups providing much more support. It is advisable to check your bra size regularly as your breast size will change during the pregnancy and after when you are producing milk for your baby.

Make sure the nursing bra is comfortable. Remember your breasts will be more sensitive.
Make sure that if the breast unlatches it unlatches easily (maybe with one hand). There is nothing worse than having to fiddle with unlatching with a hungry baby.
Allow enough room for nursing pads. Your breasts may leak so nursing pads are a great idea.
If buying your nursing bra before 36 weeks you should be able to place your fingers flat in the bra to allow for your milk to come in.
Get 3 or 4. Your breasts may leak so you will need a few nursing bras while some are washed.
