Why You Should Visit Buckingham Palace

When visiting London for the first time you should definitely visit Buckingham Palace. The belongs to Her Majesty the Queen and serves as the Royal Household. There are not many royal palaces around the world that actually server as the royal residence for the Queen and her family. Her Majesty the Queen and the esteemed Members of the Royal Family use the State Rooms for entertaining guests and visitors from around the world throughout the year.

If you are visiting London on a budget you will still be able to take a tour of the famous Palace. There are many tours to choose from and guides who are all authorized to take you around the palace. The tours happen in August and September when the Queen herself goes up to Scotland to the Balmoral castle. She typically stays there every year around this time and a couple of weeks of October. This frees up Buckingham Palace for the tours.

So what can you expect when you visit Buckingham Palace? You will be stepping into rooms which are steeped in history. The State rooms are known as the heart of Buckingham Palace, this is where all the events and functions for tourists and visitors are held. You will find the rooms are furnished with all lavishness and embellished with the finest furniture pieces from all over the world. This furniture is known as the Royal collection. Famous paintings adorn the walls including work from Canaletto, Rubens and Rembrandt. You will also see some beautiful examples of Sevres porcelain on show.

The gardens are unique and very enchanting. Garden and nature lovers are in for a real treat as there is a wide range of wild flowers, thirty odd species of birds. Along the tour you will be guided to the southern part of the garden where you will see absolutely beautiful landscapes and lakes.

In 2012 there will be a special exhibition of diamonds. It is called Diamonds: A Jubilee Celebration. On display will be many pieces which the Queen has inherited during her reign. You will be able to learn how the stones have been cut and the history behind them. Also you will learn about the many ways in which diamonds have been used over the past 200 years by British monarchs. The Queen has also allowed some of her personal jewels to go on display.

There is plenty more information on websites about tours at the palace. But one thing is for sure if you go on a tour you will learn a lot about the royal residence and the history of the building.
