Will Father Time Take It Easy On You?

Despite what you may believe you do not automatically enter into a downward spiral of declining health and physical performance as you get older. The physical degeneration and disability that we see around us particularly in older people and that we have come to expect is not an inescapable part of the aging process.

The fact is many of us are experiencing an accelerated rate of aging that we are not aware of so we do nothing to slow the process down. It will hunt us down if we let it.

Regardless of what is happening around us we each have a choice about how we wish to grow older. We can simply give in to the downward spiral and let our energy and our will to change things be sucked from us, or we can take control, get active and grow strong, fit and energetic.

Yes, it is hard to break free from layers of old beliefs and old conditioning that may have been with us since childhood. But in order to turn your health and your life around the choices that you must now make have to override these old obstacles and may well take you far out of your comfort zone.

It may be tough to exercise 2-3 times each week and eat more quality food each day. But it is much tougher to suffer from a stroke or heart attack, or be faced with a terrifying diagnosis of cancer or diabetes, or some other life threatening condition.

These things don't just happen to us out of the blue. They most likely have been smoldering away beneath the surface for year or even decades. Growing older does not mean sickness and poor health so by having any illness means something is very wrong.

How will it be for you? What steps are you taking on a daily basis to keep aging at bay?
With your health/strength/fitness being your own responsibility if you feel you are not doing enough then it is time to take that first step on your path to a better you.

In fact, you can and should be able to not only maintain but also improve your physical abilities across the entire course of your lifetime. You can be stronger, fitter and more energetic in your forties, fifties, sixties and even seventies than you are/were in your twenties and thirties.

Our bodies are supposed to last at least 100 years and more importantly, we are designed to feel, look, function and move well at that century mark. If you look around at the people in our modern world, the odds of seeing a fit and energetic 100 year old are almost as remote as winning the lottery.

Often we hear people say "I don't want to live a long time" And that is agreed, why would anyone want to grow old when it brings pain, suffering, frailty and loss of strength, bodily functions, mobility, independence, and even dignity?

But it doesn't have to be like that. Your strength training exercise program can prevent almost all of those things. Proper exercise is not a frivolous pastime; it is a form of preventative medicine, an essential ingredient for maintaining healthy, strong, fit bodies.
Our bodies were meant to move and be strong and highly active, not to be dormant.

No matter what stage you are at in life, if you don't make your strength and fitness a priority, it doesn't happen consistently enough to make a difference to your life. Making fitness your number one priority has proven benefits that affect all areas of our lives, at all stages of life.

The payoff of an active lifestyle with proper exercise is certainly worth the time and effort. Ask anyone who does it what they think.
