Will My Employer Care About My Ccent Certification?
Some of the main topics on the CCENT exam include the RIPv2 routing protocol, wireless networks, and The OSI Model, but I would say the main focus of the CCENT Exam is to see if you can subnet. So, be sure that you understand ip addresses inside and out because you will be directly and indirectly asked questions about subnetting and ip addresses. The CCENT Certification is the entry level certification from Cisco, so just by definition it isn’t worth as much as possessing the CCNA Certification, but have the CCENT credentials will absolutely mean something to your employer. Also keep in mind that your CCENT should not be a stopping point. Anyone working toward their CCENT should have a plan to continue learning about networks and get their CCNA shortly after. You have come this far already and the sooner you put off working on your CCNA after obtaining your CCENT it will only become harder. I would consider the CCENT as simply a stepping stone toward your CCNA. If you are in a job interview and you only have your CCENT explain to them that you are striving to get your CCNA and would love to use your current skill set to benefit the employer and are interested in expanding your knowledge to further benefit your employer. I think any employee that is growing is better than someone who is not willing to learn no matter how good they currently are. Because the CCENT Certification is fairly new I don’t think it holds as much value as it will in a few more years once it has been out longer and more people have heard about it and how hard it is. That being said it certainly is nice to get one test out of the the way and over with. And then start on a clean slate working on the ICND2 test in order to get your CCNA, rather than trying to take the single CCNA Exam in one step.
