Winning Halloween Costume: Sixties And Seventies Science Fiction
If you are looking for an excellent costume idea, you would be interested in considering the sixties and the seventies in TV and movie themes.
A great number of high quality TV shows and films like Bonanza, The Wild Wild West, Happy Days, The Bionic Woman, and much more, have been produced during the sixties and the seventies. These series are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for anyone who is looking for a Halloween costume. One thing in particular about the sixties and the seventies is the fact that these two decades gave birth to the start of the science fiction genre in a big way. Long before the sixties and the seventies, the cinema produced science fiction films such as When Worlds Collide, but these two decades in particular improved that kind of films and brought them into our homes through two highly popular series.
The first one of these series is Star Trek, the brainchild of Gene Roddenberry. Star Trek was surely well known for things like the travel across the galaxy in order to discover life on other planets as well as intergalactic characters such as Mr Spock, but costumes worn by the crew of the legendary Starship Enterprise also helped make the series highly famous.
A great example is that if you are a Star Trek Communication officer Nyota Uhura from this time period, you would be wearing a uniform that involved a red dress as well as black shoes. That kind of uniform would be recognized by people that were fans of the series. Alternatively, Star Trek was also famous for "redshirt syndrome", in which a non-main character in a red shirt would beam down to a planet with the team and get killed. There are chances that wearing a costume inspired by the members of the USS Enterprise crew will earn you some cheers and congratulations from the party guests.
Star Trek was not the only science fiction series to get its start during these two decades. Indeed, another popular series of movies was created during this time frame: Star Wars. Involving a form of energy called "The Force", many alien creatures as well as special effects generated by high technology, Star Wars was created by George Lucas and was a totally different style than Star Trek as well as the other science fiction series. Star Wars' most popular characters are Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Darth Vader; each of them being a character of which you could model your costume after. Alternatively, there are storm troopers, imperial soldiers in grey uniforms and the starfighter pilot in orange uniform, Wedge Antilles, that would all be very recognizable as well.
The sixties and the seventies produced a lot of other science fiction TV or movie series such as The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone or Village of the Damned for you to choose from, which makes them a great source for Halloween costume ideas.
