Winter Fun At The Chattahoochee Nature Center
Join a Chattahoochee Nature Center naturalist for Creature Feature, scheduled every Thursday and Friday at 4pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. Topics vary each week and include talks on habitats, ecology, and why healthy forests are important. Visit with some of the center’s non-releasable animals, many of which have been injured and cannot survive in the wild. Docent guides lead trail hikes on the center’s trails every Saturday and Sunday at 1pm. Discover the area wildlife and learn about their habitats. A popular activity on Saturday afternoons at 4pm is feeding time at the center. Visitors ages 5 and older may enjoy night hikes, scheduled for February 11 and March 10 from 7-9pm. Hike through the woods, check out the stars, and enjoy marshmallows by the campfire. There is a fee of $10 for this activity. Learn how to prepare your landscape for spring on February 18. Get motivated to tackle those late winter projects and spruce up your yard. This program is geared for ages 16 and older, and there is a fee of $10 to participate. On February 17-20 the nature center will be conducting a backyard bird count. Learn how to participate in a program that counts birds and make a bird feeder to take home. There is no extra fee for this activity. The nature center will host a Super Seuss Exhibit from February 17-March 11. The exhibit coordinates with the release of the new Lorax feature film. Learn how wildlife played a role in many Dr. Seuss stories. The Georgia Daffodil Society will present their annual show at the nature center on March 17 from 10am-5pm. Exhibitors come from several Southern states to show their beautiful blooms. The whole family will enjoy On the Farm Day with Farmer Sue on March 24. Come meet Farmer Sue’s baby animals, make spring crafts, and enjoy a story time. There is no additional fee for these activities. Visitors can always enjoy the nature center’s trails. The Beaver Pond Trail and the River Boardwalk trail are two of the most popular choices. There are a number of interactive exhibits in the Interpretive Center to explore, and no visit is complete without seeing the center’s resident birds and animals. The Chattahoochee Nature Center is located at 9135 Willeo Road in Roswell. The center is open Monday-Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sunday from noon-5pm. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for ages 3-12.
