Having wooden shutters or plantation blinds on the inside of your windows is becoming a popular window treatment; however they can be very pricey. If high quality wooden shutters are too expensive for your budget there are some faux wooden shutters and plantation blinds that are more economical for the budget conscious.
If you'd still like to buy the real thing, but at a more affordable price, then it would be worth doing some research on companies that sell wholesale or discount wooden shutters. A majority of the wholesale companies sell mainly to builders and carpenters but it's still worth your while either phoning them or going in in person and asking them if they would be willing to sell you some at a wholesale price.
If you have a large enough order they may be happy to oblige. Otherwise you could always ask if they have any surplus material that they'd be willing to sell you at a discount. A lot of these wholesalers have excess material left over from jobs that they just pileup out the back of the store and they may be quite happy to sell it off cheaply to be rid of it.
It's worth asking and having a look because if you only need a few panels for a couple of windows you may find enough material there. Of course it goes without saying that in your haste to get a bargain, don't forget to check that the wood is straight and the panels aren't warped.
With a little bit of research and legwork you may be able to dress your windows with high quality wooden shutters at a fraction of the retail price. It''s certainly worth the effort - the savings to you on the cost of shutters to dress all the windows of the house could be quite substantial.
