Woodworking Tools From The Hardware Store

Woodworking is an essential craft that mainly benefits the house. If you try to look around the house, you will find various wood-works like cabinet, chairs, tables, drawers and door. Woodworks may either be decorative such as wooden sculptures and there are also those wood-works that are functional such as wooden benches. Wood-works are created by artistic and talented craftsmen using well chosen woodworking tools that can be bought from hard ware stores.

The main materials in making woodwork products are of course wood. Yet without proper woodworking tools, blocks of wood will just remain as they are. A few woodworking tools are:
* Finish head claw hammer - Hammer is a common tool used for various purposes. Of all the many types of hammer, the claw hammer is the most versatile of all. It has a smooth and rounded head. In woodworking, it is ideal to pick a hammer that is not excessively heavy, such as a hammer weighing 20 ounces. Select a hammer that feels easy with your hand.

* Utility Knife - Another essential tool for a woodworker is a utility knife. It should have a functional locking mechanism with razor blades that are disposable. This tool is versatile and can be used not just to cut the material but also scribe marks, clean hinge mortise and many others.

* Chisel - A woodworker needs a chisel that is adequately sharpened to clean out mortises and joints effectively. Available widths of chisels are 0.25”, 0.5”, 0.75” and 1”. These sizes of chisels will be used frequently so a skilled woodworker would need to have them at all times.

* Layout Square - This tool is used to mark a square line on which to cut an end. It can also be used to quickly measure and make a right angle.

* Tape Measure - A retractable tape measure is absolutely one of the important tools which a woodworker should have. Choose a good quality of tape measure that has metric and standard measurements. It should also have a lock mechanism and a loose hook at the end.

* Level - A level is used to make sure that the piece of wood is accurately plumb (vertical) and level (horizontal).

* Sliding Bevel - The sliding bevel is akin to the square. The difference is that the bevel may be adjusted at any angle and locked. It has a lock mechanism that is handy when angle measures need to be repeated.

* Nail set - The nail set resembles a round and small chisel utilized in sinking nail heads or set them right under the surface of the wood.

* Block Plane - A block plane is a device needed by the woodworker in shaving the wood in order to clean the edges of the oodwork assembly.

Although all the mentioned woodworking tools mentioned are operated by hand, a woodworker may also use electric power tools. Examples of power tools that may be used by a woodworker to finish a job in less time are circular chain saw, power drills, jigsaw, random orbital sander, table saw, compound miter saw and router.
