Working At Home -- Strike While The Iron Is Hot!

If you work at home you have the luxury of being able to work when you feel like it, and not when you don't. Use it! I know the idea sounds heretical, especially to those of us who have been immersed in the American work ethic our entire lives. Unfortunately, "You'll never get anywhere unless you work really hard," has been drilled into our brains until we have come to believe it is the only way to achieve what we want. What usually results, at least at some point along the path, is burn-out and exhaustion, perhaps to the point of ruined health.

There IS another way, understood by any truly great entrepreneur, that involves channeling your creative energies into some thing or things you really love, and doing so in your own way, on your own schedule—what I'm calling "striking while the iron is hot." And if you're working at home you're at a definite advantage here because YOU call the shots. So let's take a look.

There are just three basic reasons why working when you feel like it actually works, and they are extremely simple:

1. When you are working because you feel like it, by inherent definition, your creative juices are flowing.

2. When your creative juices are flowing, you feel excited and NOT TIRED.

3. When you are excited and not tired, you can work faster and longer than when you are dragging, so you are far more effective and productive.

It's that simple. Really. The trick is to be working in something that really inspires you, something you can indeed get those creative juices flowing about. If you're working at home, this is probably already the case.
To experience the power of striking while the iron is hot, try playing with the idea. Start doing your regular chores, not on their regular schedule, but as you feel more energy for them. If you hate washing dishes at night and are dead tired while doing them, go on to bed, get up 15 minutes earlier the next morning, and try washing them then, when you are fresh. See how different this one little job affects you when done at a time of high energy. This may not be a good example for you, but you get the idea. Experiment. Keep it simple and begin tailoring things around your own energy requirements and natural rhythms. Then begin applying the principle in your work at home, and you'll find it makes a world of difference. Soon you'll be so used to working this way you won't be able to relate to your old way of doing things.
