Workplace Giving Donation Facts

With pre-tax payroll giving as of 2003, it is now even easier to participate in Workplace Giving donation programs. Corporate payroll donations are an effective, easy and low-cost method of driving social responsibility in the workplace, while directly contributing to the community and boosting worker morale.

Here are 5 workplace donation facts:

1. According to The Australian Charities Fund (ACF), if 10% of all working Australians made a charity donation of just $5 a week, the community would benefit by more than $260 million annually.

2. Corporate donations done through payroll have immediate tax benefits, as they are paid with pre-tax dollars, meaning workers don't have to wait for their annual tax return to claim donations. However, The ACF study also found that among Australian businesses without workplace donation programs, two-thirds had never heard of payroll giving.

3. Charities and non-profits organisation spend almost 25% of their income on fundraising initiatives. By engaging in Workplace Giving donation programs, companies can help charities and non-profit organisations cut down on administration and fundraising costs.

4. The recent Centre for Social Impact (CSI), The Giving Business, found that in 2004, there were 94,000 Australian donors who gave a total of $18million. However in the UK, 1.3% or 580,000 working adults gave more than $200 million, and in Canada, over $343million were raised by more than 1.5million workplace donors!

5. A Curtin University study in 2007 found that participating in corporate social responsibility, such as through workplace donation programs, significantly boosted staff morale, customer satisfaction and company reputation.
