When you first begin your WoW journey you will have no gold, no silver and no copper. All you get is one bag, a hearthstone and usually something for food. Starting out gold really doesn’t mean anything in the beginning... But the more you level, the more powerful you become and the higher you level your professions you will need some gold to cover the cost. Everything starts at copper, silver than good (spending wise) and by spending wise I actually mean on your class training, professions and skills. Basically the higher level you become the more expensive it will be. Gold is becoming even more important since everyone can get their mounts at level 30 instead 40. The price varies a bit, but it is a huge chunk of gold, especially for someone new who does even have a 70 yet or even much for gold, if any.
I know what its like to have a broke character and such. I once had a low level toon before, and you know what? He didn’t get his first gold until level 20. That is right. So I will tell you why. My rogue is now 70 but levels 1 - 18 I had no clue how to get gold or what gold farming meant. Every time he leveled I was off in the auction house buying him new gear that he did not need. Now this gear was just little bits of silver, but because I wasted the time buying something that would of been replaced in a level or 2 I never did save any gold. I gave him mining and blacksmithing because I thought blacksmithing was cool, though at that level I could do nothing with it. Mining I could though. Sad part though was that it wasn’t until level 19 I realized I could save up my ore, smelt it then put it in the auction house for at least 1 gold for a stack of 20. It sold for more than that but not always. My problem though was not knowing how to get gold at such a low level and the auction house amazed me so I always thought I needed every upgraded weapon and armor when really, I didn’t. So I want to give some gold tips out in this article to help anyone who may be struggling with getting gold saved up.
One thing to take into consideration when you want to get some gold saved, is the auction house and what people need. This is not just about really needs though. This is about supply and demand, even a level 10 can help the WoW economy out a bit somehow.
Now the only problem with this list is that 4 of things listed requires you to have those 4 professions. Confused?
Let me explain this a bit differently. To obtain leather you need to become a skinner. To mine for ores you need mining. To gather herbs/flowers you need herbalism. To get enchanting materials like strange dust, small glimmering shards and arcane dust you need enchanting. Now skinning, mining and herbalism are gathering professions because they require you to go out and search for the item. Not so much skinning because you actually need to kill certain beast and then skin them. Looking for herbs and ore though require searching, not so much by you though. The game has a function where you can *search for minerals* and *search for herbs* it even comes with learning it, you just activate it and as you quest or even just travel a herb or ore may appear on your mini map at the top right hand corner. When this happens go to do and gather whatever is there waiting for you. Now again you cannot have all 3 of these you can only ever at one time have 2 professions. I mentioned skinning/mining/herbalsim because they make good money, and when you start out you can easily use 2 of these professions. You don’t need to keep them though. If you like for the next 5 - 15 levels you could keep the professions until you get the gold you want then drop them for new ones. Its really up to you. Quick tip though, do not take mining and herbalsim together since they both require you to search. It would be better to take skinning and mining or skinning and herbalsim.
Enchanting is a good source of gold as well. More so for disenchanting the magic items then placing them for sale in the auction house. The only problem with this though is getting the magic items, at low level it could take forever, and its not always smart to run to the auction house and start buying a bunch of magic items to disenchant unless you have the gold to do so. For me I waited until I had a level 70 until I took this one, but even at a later time it is worth having on a future character.
And cloth... Good old cloth will probably always be a seller. Even when its linen cloth. Cloth is good no matter how you look at it. It is mainly used for tailoring but first aid and even other professions sometimes needs cloth too. If you search the auction house cloth is a top seller I would say. On my server there always is lots of cloth selling. Personally I always sell my cloth in stacks of 20. Level 1 - 20 you will see lots of linen cloth and then wool next. Starting out though you can save your linen cloth and sell it. On my server it sells for 30 silver a stack up to 1 gold. It depends on how much is up and selling. Plus linen cloth is seen a such a low level, so because of that it usually does not go over 2 gold a stack.
So you may be thinking how does this help me? Well like I said if you want to accumulate gold quickly and effectively then start doing it at a low level. Gathering professions are very useful because the items are needed and some people are just to darn lazy to get the items or don’t have the profession to begin with. You do the work of getting these items and you will get paid for the effort. Because cloth is a big market its good to save it while you are questing young and then when you get your first stack or so then sell it.
Most sources and polls I have researched show that people use gathering professions then drop them at higher level because by then they have gold and do not need to the profession so they take up a new one. And that is ok. This is just about saving some gold. You do not have to go this route though. You can farm for cloth and sell it, and always do your quest because you will gather some small amounts of copper and silver from that starting out. Another option that any level can use as long as you have some silver is buying limited supply recipes and reselling them on the auction house for a high price which for some recipes can be a gold or more.
I do play World of Warcraft and wanted to share what has worked for me and many other players. I hope it works for you too.
My name is Lee I have been playing WoW for about a year now. I really enjoy the game it’s a lot of fun. I have one level 70 rogue and a level 60 mage on the way to 70 and some other alts. The article I wrote above is mainly for newer players, since a lot of other players probably already know what I mentioned in this article.
