Writing for money is a science. If your method of making money online is with a blog, then here are 5 things you will want to avoid doing. If you follow this advice, you will have a much greater chance of making more money with your blog than working if you worked for minimum wage. Sadly, most bloggers make a lot less.
1. You write about things no one searches for.
If you have a blog where you write about what you love for a hobby, then that's fine. More power to you. But if you want to make money, then you need to start writing about topics that have a demand. There are tools out there you can use to learn how to find topics that can actually make you money.
2. You follow advice from famous bloggers.
I'm sure they are good people but most of their advice is not going to help you make much. The fact it that these people are the best bloggers in the world so if people just follow their advice, most of them would actually make money right? Well, sadly, this isn't the case.
Here's an experiment: Go to one of their old blog posts that is over a year old. Read some of the comments that people put on those posts. You will find that many of them will leave their URL and say things like, "Thanks for the tips. I will definitely use it and will hopefully make money with my blog as well." If you click on their links, half of them don't even exist anymore and many of them haven't been updated in quite a while.
3. You think that writing a bunch of posts is all it takes.
There are people who actually write as much as 20 posts a day. Do they make money? Well, let's just say most of those people end up quitting for obvious reasons.
4. You treat writing for money as a hobby.
If you are really doing this as a hobby then just ignore this article but if you're doing this to make money, then you need to treat it like a business. This doesn't mean you can't have fun but it does mean you need to focus on increasing your profits and cutting out things that don't make you money.
5. You think all traffic is created equally.
Here's a tip: STOP trying to get a bunch of people to follow you on Twitter to try to get traffic from them and stop using Stumble Upon to stumble your posts. Sure, you get a spike in traffic but as you may know, it dies within a few days. You need to know how to get organic traffic if you are going to have any chance of making money online.
Avoiding these 5 things will save you a lot of time. Once you learn how to do things properly, which doesn't take long, all you need to do is get to work and before long, you will start to realize your dream of making a decent income. Writing for money is something you can learn. Once you learn it, just do it over and over.
