Writing An Effective Squeeze Page Headline
Most website visitors will make an instantaneous decision within seconds as to whether they'll stay at a site or click away. With that said your headline often is the difference between losing traffic and gaining a customer. Here is where good online copywriting skills can influence the effectiveness of any page. What we want to focus on here is how to get our headlines to accomplish the task of keeping readers on the page. Here are 3 key components to be considered when selecting a headline for your landing page: WHY IS THE VISITOR AT THE SITE This should be fairly easy to determine since the online advertising they responded to was targeting a certain problem or need to begin with. Their mere response acknowledged they do have that problem and/or need and are looking for a solution. A little forethought here concerning what it is site visitors are expecting will give you more direction and insight as you begin to compose your headline. The key here is to put the website visitor FIRST. Address THEM or address THEIR needs and don't go on about how YOU can do this or that. Frankly they don't want to hear about you, they want to hear about how THEIR problem will be solved or THEIR need will be filled. Direct your message to them with the use of YOU or YOUR and quickly highly benefits. Leave any reference to yourself as a healer, fixer, mastermind, or success out of the headline if possible. It is not about you it's all about them. CATCH THE READERS EYE The use of a different color and format from the rest of the page text will make the headline jump out at the reader. The headline should be centered and at the top of the landing page in larger size fonts with a bolder color such as dark red. If you split test, which you should, play around with different color variations, wording, fonts, and font sizes to see what works best. USE LINE BREAKS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE Strategically place line breaks within your headline when reviewing benefits. For instance break up your message so that one line may begin an enticing thought that is completed on the next line. Here's an example: "You Will Not Only Build Strength but Also Lose Inches from Your Stomach" By not completing the entire thought on just one line you intrigued/enticed the visitor to continue reading just to finish the thought. Much like leaving bread crumbs for them to follow. This is effective online copywriting at its best. By steadily building your website visitors interest without 'giving it all away' upfront you are compelling them to remain on the page and read on. Although the headline may be short relative to the entire message of the squeeze page, it has the greatest impact on both the reader and the effectiveness of the page itself. You can throw all the online advertising you want at readers but if they don't get past the headline you've wasted your time and effort.
