Yellow Is The New Black

According to Pantone, the colour giants, next year's big colour is set to be Mimosa - a warm mustard yellow. This is no surprise. Gok Wan recently reported that in a recession people wear brighter colours (and clearly if the fashion guru himself believes this then it must be true!)

Yellow stands for joy, warmth and hope.

Do we surround ourselves with this colour to bring about positive change? Or simply to feel better about the situation we’re in? Who knows – but watch the space around you as it should be filling with yellow soon!

Yellow has often been used to great affect in advertising.

Look at the success of the Yellow Pages. One of our best performing and longest running pieces of direct mail was contained in a bright yellow envelope. Was it because it stood out on the doormat? Or did it radiate so much positivity that the recipient just had to take a peek inside?

If you are looking for a positive response from your customers perhaps you should unleash a little yellow.

A couple of extra facts about colour…

Blue can be used as an appetite suppressant. Savvy slimmers put their food onto blue plates or put a blue light bulb in their fridge to ward off hunger pangs. And a certain shade of bubble-gum pink is used to calm violent prisoners in jail as it has a tranquilizing effect. But be warned this affect is only temporary!
