Yogurt To Treat Acne

It's hard to find a teen these days that doesn't have their face at least partially consumed by acne. It's an epidemic that has been fueled by poor food choices as well as the proliferation of irritation-inducing acne products on the market. With most teens and adults now convinced that over-the-counter and prescription treatments can offer them little in the way of relief, many have begun to explore homemade treatments. What may shock you is that yogurt has been shown to have some positive results in healing acne lesions. You might seem hesitant to try this acne fighting regimen out, fearing that it might not work, but you really have nothing to lose aside from a few dollars. Most modern acne regimens cost $20 or more, and never deliver what they promise.

If you are willing to give this a shot, you will need some plain yogurt that you can obtain from your local grocery store. The particular brand you choose shouldn't matter. Since it would look to travel in public with a white residue on your face, you want to plan to use this regimen before going to bed. First, wash your face without any soap. Scoop up a generous amount of yogurt, and apply it to the areas which seem to be the most inflamed. Allow it to sit overnight, being sure not to smudge the yogurt while moving about at night. In the morning, there should be a considerable reduction in the inflammation of the area where you applied the yogurt. This process will have to be repeated for at least several days for more observable results.

There is no medically documented information about the mechanism that underlies yogurt in treating acne, and there will likely never be. There is far too much interest in profiting from acne sufferers to make affordable treatments known to the public. What we do know is that yogurt has a moisturizing effect, and unlike conventional acne medications won't irritate your skin. So, if you are tired of dealing with breakouts, give this treatment a try.

If you acne has progressed to the point that you're getting several new, severely inflamed breakouts per day, it might be time to visit a dermatologist. The risk for scarring is far too great at that point and most home remedies and over-the-counter products will be ineffective. A dermatologist will be able to prescribe you powerful medications like Tretinoin to bring the breakouts under control.
