Budget Minded Tips for Healthy Eating
Tip #1 - Farmer's Markets
You can usually find a farmer's market locally in the warm months and, if you are a city dweller, you can find farmer's markets operating year round. Finding envious bargains is not as rare as you might think and you'll often stumble upon amazing items at bargain prices that are always welcome.
If you're not sure where to find a farmer's market, more often than not, one in four neighbors will know.
Tip #2 - Grocery Store Coupons
You can find bargains on healthy eating options when you're willing to visit different stores to take advantage of the best budget conscious bargains. With regular shopping, it will become obvious that each store consistently has better pricing on certain items, but you never know who might be having a too good to pass up sales, collect all coupon fliers from your newspapers, a mailing list or the stores, themselves.
Tip #3 - Cut Your Own Vegetables
Don't be fooled by convenience. Pre-cut vegetables and fruit cost more and aren't as good for you, and may purposely be packaged to hide spoiling and flaws that are, yes, unhealthy, but a waste of your money. Truth be told, there are more body benefiting health components you're looking for, simply by selecting, preparing and washing your own produce.
Tip #4 - Swear Never To Buy A Packaged Dinner Again
Homemade soup is healthier than canned soup, no doubt about it, is much, much more the example to follow, when healthy eating is your goal. Prepared food is made to 'survive a nuclear strike', thus it should be anything, but rocket science, that such unhealthy alternatives is chocked full with salt, sugar, extra calories, and you don't want to know about all the ingredients you don't know how to pronounce, let alone want to eat - yuck! A cookbook bought to have on hand for years may have a learning curve, but the money you'll save in the first month will banish any doubts you may have now. Side note: It's been around for generations, but the newest edition of, 'The Joy of Cooking' I can attest is a wise way to ultimately save you a boat load of money, and doesn't break the bank.
Healthy eating is a realistic goal for you and your family and the icing on the cake is you can do it even with a limited budget.
