Food can vary wildly in Greece; however it is guaranteed to be very expensive near the tourist spots. Usually, you will come across restaurants with waiters standing outside, trying to attract you in. Avoid these places – they are usually very expensive and the food is not more often than not great, surely not the real Greek food. You are searching for a Taverna rather than an Estiatorio (restaurant). The latter is usually overpriced and serves precisely the same food, however in a classier surrounding, for which you pay a premium.
