You Need Good Mechanics To Survive

There is no doubt that the greatest pitchers who enjoy the longest careers have solid pitching mechanics. Not only do these pitchers understand that throwing the baseball the right way adds years to their career; they know they are not as prone to arm injuries. Here is a short list of some of the benefits of throwing properly.

When a pitcher can use the right technique they minimize the risk of injury to their throwing arm. It makes perfect sense as to why it would decrease chances of injury, even if we take the science of pitching out of it. You see, most pitchers throw too much with their arms and not with their bodies. When every part of their body is working in sync with each other and working in the right direction they have the right kind of momentum moving forward. Pitchers should really get a lot of their power from their legs, hips and shoulders.

The pitchers with proper mechanics will also enjoy the benefit of throwing faster. It is important to note that a long stride is part of throwing the ball correctly. When a pitcher shortens their stride they decrease their momentum, therefore they also decrease their velocity. It also makes perfect sense that a pitcher who throws faster than others doesn’t just rely on his throwing arm for velocity.

Another benefit for pitchers that throw properly is discovering the talent of pin point control. Those pitchers who seem to paint the corners and have great command of every one of their pitches keep their momentum moving toward home plate until release of the baseball. Pitchers can feel pain in their arms when their momentum changes away from their target.

As mentioned previously, a pitcher will find much more success with all of their baseball pitches when they have solid technique. The most important thing for beginning pitchers to understand about throwing off speed pitches is that their arm slot, arm angle and arm speed all have to be the same as their fastball mechanics. If any of those change when they deliver the ball they will have a hard time throwing consistent strikes because they are not being consistent with their mechanics.
