You Need To Plan For Disaster Recovery

What would happen to your clinic if you had a disaster in your area? Floods, fires, tornadoes, earthquakes and other natural disasters have a nasty habit of not announcing themselves before they occur, and this can mean big trouble for your business if you do not prepare in advance. A disaster recovery plan is something that all companies, including medical practices, need to consider. You need to think about what would happen with your patients when they need to contact you and you are unable to reach the office. If you haven't thought about these things before now, you need to start.

Fortunately, you can do a few things that will help prepare you for any type of disaster that could come your way. One of the first things that you should do when planning for disaster recovery is hire an answering service that is available 24 hours a day. Choosing a service that offers triage from highly trained nurses is a plus because they will be able to take care of minor medical questions if you are unable to reach the phone or access messages due to the disaster.

By hiring a company based elsewhere to handle the calls, you can be sure that your patients will always have access, even if there is no power in your area. The centers will be able to take messages and make sure that they reach you via phone, email, and other means. If you have a disaster, you will even be able to have the answering service instruct your patients on what to do and where to seek help while the clinic remains closed.

While no one enjoys thinking about the possibility of some catastrophic event that could impact their area and their practice, these things do happen with regularity. It makes far more sense to plan for disaster recovery now and have everything in place if something were to occur.
