Pick-pocketing is one of the major causes of identity theft. In the US almost 60% of the registered cases were due to pick-pocketing. Identity theft occurs because most of the people store their valuable information inside the wallet. It might contain passports, driving license, personal identification cards, security card, credit and debit cards etc. Hard earned money will also be lost due to this. Thus your identity is easy to be misused by thieves.

The punishment for identity theft is very severe. It might be many years of rigorous imprisonment and a large amount of fine. A person whose identity has been stolen can take a lot of time to recover from the hangover of the theft and its consequences. The only way to avoid identity theft is to be very careful about your wallet. Always make sure that you keep it in the safest pocket.

Never carry any sensitive data or information in your wallet. Always carry the necessary items only. Don't carry large amounts of cash in your wallet. Always prefer a credit card that is password protected and try to do as much of the bank transactions online. Social security cards should never be carried in wallets as criminals can use them to commit serious offences and crimes. Check books and blank check bills should also be avoided from carrying. This can lead to major theft from your bank account.

Do not carry a lot of debit or credits cards with you all the time. A single theft can result in the loss of all cards. Always carry the most essential ones only. Make sure that account does not contain a large amount of cash. Deposit the surplus money to another account and store the associated cards safely at your home. Maintaining a well organized wallet is the key to prevent identity theft. Clear your wallet once in a while and by this way you get a clear idea about the contents that you carry in your wallet.
