Your Mobile Web Design

Society is moving forward digitally. Newspaper printers and travel agents aren’t the only businesses seeing a change in revenue from the Internet. In 2010, people spent over $225 billion dollars online—shopping, paying bills, and hiring services that they once did in stores and in person. With so much potential revenue, it’s essential that a website user experience remains positive to retain customers and clients.

As smart phones continue to rise in popularity, webmasters not only have to keep in mind the aesthetic value of their site on a normal computer, but also how it translates to a cell phone. Many companies are restructuring their site in order to create a second mobile web design. The key to this restructure is simplicity. Even though putting so much work into your website for cell phone users may be frustrating, the turnaround and positive response can be tremendous.

With your normal website, you want to make it easy to access any and all information about your company. With your mobile web design your focus should be to consolidate the information, so that only the most important information is readily available to the visitors. Every website tracks not only the amount of traffic it receives but also the amount of time that a visitor lingers on each site. The longer you retain a visitor, the more effective a site may be deemed, but people generally have short attention spans, and it’s hard to retain them on one webpage. This problem is only magnified with cell phone users. Since they’re surfing the web while walking or riding the subway, they speed through pages even quicker than normal visitors. To be an effective mobile web design, the essentials of a service or products you may offer need to be relayed clearly and succinctly.

If these cell phone users sound fickle, it’s because they can be, but they should also be viewed as more promising leads than someone browsing the web from home. If they’re looking at a site while mobile, their intent to use a service or buy a product is much more sincere. If through a well-designed mobile site, a company can attract interest and market itself well, it has a much higher potential for committed users and customers.
