How beneficial is Zinc for treating acne?


Based on several studies showing the benefits of vitamins and minerals for skin care …… it might be worth giving it a try.

Zinc offers acne suffers several benefits including a reduction in inflammation, lesions and the nasty bacteria called- Propionibacterium acnes - which is associated with acne.

Taking oral zinc can also help change the skin’s environment making inhabitable for the bacteria responsible for acne.

Zinc and Antibiotics

For those acne suffers who have become resistant to oral antibiotics …..zinc has been shown in studies to help improve the effectiveness of antibiotic treatment.

Is Zinc as Effective As Tetracycline?

One study found that in – tetracycline in doses of 250 mgs was no more effective than 30 mg of zinc gluconate.

Zinc Your Diet

The benefits of vitamins for healthy skin should not be overlooked, however diet and food choices also contain important vitamins for clear healthy skin. That being said, zinc is found in common every day foods such as:

Keep in mind that zinc comes in several different forms and not all are absorbed easily. Zinc gluconate was used in most studies. Also, if you are taking antibiotics, make sure to take zinc several hours before or after your medication.
