Zombieland Review - A Parody Movie Like Shaun Of The Dead

I am a huge fan of Shaun of the Dead for the fact that it was a parody movie and it had subtle and genuinely smart jokes, unlike the in-your-face and exaggerated jokes in the Scary Movie series. I was told that Zombieland would be more like the former than the latter with the usual "last men alive" theme in zombie horror movies, and I was instantly interested. After seeing the movie, it did not disappoint, non-stop laughs, ranging from one-liners to situation jokes, building up to a predictable and ass-kicking ending.

The two main characters, a nerdy college student who stays out of trouble all the time (a very relatable main character really), and a fiery redneck who happens to be a zombie-killing fanatic (a person that we would like to be in such troubled times), had great chemistry and the contrast in personality created lots of memorable moments. Two "damsels in distress" they met along the way had great character depth and believable personalities considering the situations they were in. A pleasant surprise in a special cameo half way through the movie also contributed a huge amount of laugh-out-loud moments.

The movie was only around 90 minutes long, though it seemed short at first, but considering the linear storyline with no surprises, it was the right length for a parody flick. It was probably fairer to say the movie was properly edited with no boring and pointless scenes that drags on and on. The good balance of laughs and actions made it a very satisfying watch.
