Ebay - Deciding On Items To Sell

So you've decided that you want to get started as an eBay seller. Now it's time to start working on an action plan. You can go two ways with this. You can start by setting up an account and then do your research, or you can do your research and then set up an account. The setting up an account is easy. The research part is a bit trickier.

First you need to figure out what you're going to sell. Preferably, you'll want to sell something that you have interest in or that you know a lot about. You want to make this product your specialty. That means that you want to specialize in either one kind or similar kinds of products. That way you establish yourself as an authority on the subject, and customers will know to come to your store when they're looking for the type of product your selling or something related. It's hard to build loyalty when you sell random objects. You won't get repeat customers that way because most customers will realize that once they've bought a certain product from you, the likeliness of you carrying the same or a like product isn't very likely. Therefore, next time they're looking for something they'll most likely go elsewhere.

If you're not exactly sure about a product to specialize in, you should sit back and think of your interests in relationship to the kinds of products that are involved in your interests. Then slowly narrow down the list. You can do this by narrowing the list down by objects that are easy to acquire, objects you have the most interest in, or objects that you think would be easiest for you to ship. If you can combine the three, you've probably found your product.

Don't worry if the product that you come up with is odd. A lot of strange things have sold on eBay before, including abc gum. Chances are, if you have something to sell, no matter how odd, there will probably be someone out there who will buy it.

It's recommended to run a few test auctions on an item before you invest in large amounts of inventory. Though pretty much any item will sell on eBay, that doesn't mean that they'll all sell on the first try. It's important to pick an item that converts well. You want consistent sales, not sales that are few and far between.

Those are the basics to picking a product. Research and run test auctions and you should find your niche in no time. Remember that eBay is all about trial and error. And persistence is the key.
