Ebay Tips On How To Write A Compelling Item Description

It is likely that you will have competitive sellers selling the same or similar items so you need to write a compelling or attractive item description to give your item some advantage over the other items.

Even if you are selling a unique item, you still need to have an eye-catching item description.

You should provide as much details as possible in your item heading and use the same catchy statement as your first line of item description.

Examples:

* Digital Camera
* Canon Digital Camera
* CANON Powershot A590
* NEW! Canon Powershot A590 IS 8MP Digital Camera

I am sure the last example will attract your attention if you are searching for a Canon digital camera. You need to get the potential buyer to click on your item for more details.

A more detailed item heading will also show up in the searches more frequently as it is likely that the potential buyers have some clue as to what they want.

You should provide as much as details on the item so as to give the potential buyer all the information he needs to make a decision on the spot or immediately.

If I use the same example as the digital camera, you should first attract him to the freebies that would come with it, if any. For example: a mini-tripod, extra battery.
Then, visit the manufacturer’s website and copy whatever important or impressive details that you think are relevant to support your sale. If the information is too much, then extract the key details and provide the website address for the potential buyer to click on.

You may also write a short story to support the sale if you feel that it is relevant. For example: I am selling this digital camera because I won in the office lucky draw and I just bought one during my recent birthday. I have managed to sell most of my son’s shoes, soccer boots, etc by telling the potential buyers that my son has outgrown the items and has used them a few times only so they were in almost new condition. This is to put your potential buyers at ease in case they are wondering why you are selling them at such a good price.

Finally, the best tip I can share with you is that always do a search on the item that you are selling and learned from your competitors. See how they write their item heading and description. Learn from the experienced sellers free of charge and you need not be an expert in copywriting.

Also, through these searches, you can also determine at what price you would want to sell your item as you do not want to over-price your item unless you can justify it.

One more last tip is to always take photos of your items for sale as a picture paints a thousand words!
