Ebay Is Dead

Gone are the days when you could stay up late in your bedroom tuned in to purchase that little handbag you had always dreamed of. And it was always a bargain too! The seller, having seen it everyday for a couple of years would be so inured to its charms, that she would totally underestimate its value to the larger paying public. And at three in the morning who else was up, lovingly pressing the 'refresh' button every few seconds?

Now, it is impossible to find the cheap things you used to be able to because eBay has castrated the sellers to the point that they run around like little headless eunuchs trying to jump through hoops but without being able to see what is coming round the next corner. Acronyms fly around wildly as if everyone knew what they mean. After FVFs, we now have DSRs. And the Distressed Sellers at whom these are aimed will be very Regretful indeed. Most small sellers have abandoned the sinking ship already. Plenty of other auction sites abound. Once one of them has built up enough critical mass, it will fly.

Meanwhile, what of the Goliath? Left sitting in its huge corporate corner. Too big to run after its sellers, it draws its buyers round it for comfort. Gathering them up under its skirts saying 'stay, I have vouchers! You like vouchers don't you?'
