Ereader Review - The Entourage Edge Is A Sharp Little Device!
The left screen is an excellent sized E-Ink display that's touch-enabled. The right display is another touch screen display, this time LCD. The right display screen is where you will perform programs like a web browser and e-mail. It can connect via WI-FI or (and this is just so hassle-free) using the SIM card position for its own broadband connection. It is also built with an audio player, webcam and microphone. This clever gadget is marketed for college students. They will be able to keep the left reader screen active while taking notes throughout a lecture in the right display. And for those just like me who find it hard to get rid of the paper notebook (because I need to scribble) you can hand write notes within the E-Ink tablet as well. Another plus for me relating to this tablet device is the fact that left handed people like me can rotate each screens to be able to hold the reading screen on the right and the Liquid crystal display screen where you type or take notes on the left(just how great is that lefties?). I also think that the pop up software key pad is just so 'Star Trekkie' in my opinion. You're also provided with an integrated stylus but if that still does not suit you you'll be able to plug in a keyboard to the USB. And so now let us look at this from a purely eReader perspective. The E-Ink screen screen has 8 grayscale contrasts that make readability adjustable according to the surrounding illumination. For downloading books in to the device it is a snap since you can WI-FI it from the LCD side. The types of files it supports unfortunately is not as numerous as the The new sony reader as it reads only PDF and ePub formats. The internal storage is big compared to other readers with a hefty 4GB internal memory and it also has SD card slot should you need to browse the encyclopedia. Page turning is actually snappy and easy. The massive display is also a choice for those who buy the large paperback books. The downsides however (and this is why it's a tug of war between practicality and desire) really do prevent you from purchasing the gadget. The eReader's function is comparable to it's competition but it is just too big at 3 lbs. It is bigger than the netbook I am currently typing on. Another issue, and some would certainly say the deal breaker would be the price tag, an astonishing $499. Yes, it costs as much as an ipad and we all know which device consumers will pick if they had the $499 to shell out. The company is going to release a pocket edition though. If it costs $220 or less, I'm purchasing.
